Size

Each steading has a Size tag, which describes the scale of its infrastructure: its permanent buildings, the size of its fields, the number of inhabitants it can comfortably support.

The tag is mostly descriptive, but it affects how much Surplus is consumed each winter (see Seasonal gains), as well as the Muster (page 534), Pull Together, and Trade & Barter (page 540) moves.

The possible values for Size are:

Hamlet (<50 people): Consume 1d2 +Population Surplus each winter; Muster, Pull Together, and Trade & Barter with disadvantage

Village (150-350 people): Consume 1d4 +Population Surplus each winter

Town (500-1500 people): Consume 2d6 +Population Surplus each winter; Muster, Pull Together, and Trade & Barter with advantage

City (2,500+ people): Tracking Surplus is out of scope for such a big place; Muster, Pull Together, and Trade & Barter with advantage

Stonetop starts as a village, home to about 300 souls. If things go very poorly in play, it could shrink and become a hamlet. If the PCs complete enough improvements, it can become a town. Becoming a city is beyond the default scope of the game.
