Coins

Stonetop doesn't mint coins, and folks don't use them day-to-day. The local economy runs on trade, gifts and favors, debt and honor. Coin is used almost exclusively when trading with outsiders.

Even then, coin is worth only what folks will trade for it. There's no government to set or enforce prices or exchange rates. Coins vary greatly in size, weight, and purity. Coins minted in Gordin's Delve might be worth more to locals than to outsiders. A Lygosi merchant might prefer southern currency to old Maker coins, but an antiquarian might consider those ancient coins to be priceless.

Stonetop abstracts coinage into individual coins, handfuls, and purses. Coins are most often copper, silver, or gold.

  • An individual coin is quite small, ranging in size from a that of a modern penny to a silver dollar.
  • A handful of coins contains about 10 individual coins.
  • A purse of coins contains about 10 handfuls of coins, or around 100 individual coins.
  • One silver coin is roughly worth a purse of coppers (around 100 copper coins, Value 0).
  • One gold coin is roughly worth a purse of silvers (around 100 silver coins, or an absolute pile of coppers, Value 2).
