Fortunes

The Fortunes stat reflects the morale and social cohesion of the village, the favor of the gods, and just "how things are going." Fortunes start at +1, and can range from -1 to +3.

When Fortunes are high, people are (generally) happy and generous with each other. The future seems bright.

When Fortunes are low, people are (generally) grumpy or despairing. They talk of dark times ahead. They start looking to themselves and their own rather than the community at large.

Fortunes go up when the PCs Return Triumphant (page 339) or complete certain improvements Steading improvements. They go down when the village Meets with Disaster (page 532). Fortunes might go down when the PCs Muster (page 534), Requisition (page 308), or have the village Pull Together.

Players roll +Fortunes to Requisition (page 308). More importantly, they roll +Fortunes when the Seasons Change to see what the season has in store for the village and the PCs.

After the players roll for Seasons Change, Fortunes reset to +1 (or +0 if the steading is malcontent). This means that changes to Fortunes themselves are passing, applying to only the next season.
